George Hopkins is an experienced mechanical engineer working across a variety of sectors including automotive, defence and construction; having successfully undertaken roles spanning from operational support to research and development George has moved from high volume automotive production to cutting edge metal 3D printing. All of these have required a strong focus on process, safety and quality underpinning any technical solution.
In parallel to his technical career George has always been heavily involved in the voluntary sector, working with several organisations helping to deliver their core activities as well as supporting the development of their future leaders. After nearly 20 years with the Rona Sailing Project based in Southampton, George was part of the leadership team of the winning yacht in the 2017 tall ships race, winning both line honours and first in class with a crew of under 18s on the transatlantic leg.
In 2019 George joined REACT Disaster Response, quickly qualifying as an international response leader, and has since gone on to lead teams in operations in the UK and globally. George also supports the development of new leaders within this organisation as part of the training directing staff, where he believes in a strong focus on soft skills and communication as key to effective leadership.
