About Human Factors
Human errors account for most avoidable incidents, accidents and near misses. Usually, systems and processes deployed to reduce risks and improve safety overlook the role of individuals and the ‘human factors’ that affect risk, safety, reliability and compliance. Human Factors optimises all these by focusing on the key factors such as errors, accident chains, decision making, collaboration, communication, fatigue, stress and situational awareness. Human Factors training offers the most time and cost-efficient route to a further step change in safety, reliability and risk management.
Who should choose this solution?
Any Oil & Gas, Maritime, Healthcare, Construction, Events and Emergency services leader who is accountable for optimising safety, risk management and compliance in his or her area or for the wider organisation.
Human Factors Training Outcomes
Learn how to apply crucial Human Factors NOTECHS (Situational Awareness, Decisions Making, Stress and Fatigue, Leadership vs Management, Teamwork, Communication and Collaboration) and have the ability to improve decision-making under pressure and practice the key skills learned.
Actual improvements in safety, reliability and other desired operational outcomes (KPIs), including leadership, creating the right culture (Just, Reporting) and integration of Human Factors into existing processes and systems.

Why this solution is for you
Most incidents and near misses are avoidable and down to human (in)action. The business case for optimising Human Factors is well documented. Organisations typically develop and deploy many systems and processes to reduce risks and improve safety, but most overlook the role that leadership and teamwork play in the process.
If you work in the Oil & Gas industry, our solutions for this industry are fully based on HF competencies laid down by the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) and designed to be cost & time efficient. Our Human Factors programmes are offered by the Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE) as the standard HF programme to their global membership.

Human Factors Training Modules
Our Human Factors modules cover all Six NOTECHS key factors plus seven more factors that affect the workplace and the personnel. All our modules are available through Live Coaching or as part of our programmes. See all our programmes below or click Here.
SIX CORE NOTECHS MODULES
- SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: Developing and maintaining a dynamic awareness of the situation and the risks present during operations.
- COMMUNICATION & COLLABORATION: The exchange of information, ideas and beliefs, by verbal and non-verbal methods. Understanding the barriers to, and characteristics of, effective communication.
- DECISION MAKING: We share a few simple but highly effective decision-making tools, which are particularly powerful in situations where time and information are limited, and the pressure is high.
- STRESS & FATIGUE: Equips the learner with an understanding of causes and impacts of the factors that affect the ability of people to perform reliably.
- LEADERSHIP vs MANAGEMENT: Appreciate the difference between leadership and management and how each play a different role in optimising safety and risk and that you need both to complement the other.
- TEAMWORK: This covers Team Building and Team ‘Development’ i.e. through Consideration of Others and Feedback; Support of Others; and Conflict Resolution.

Live Coaching 90/120 Minutes
We utilise the latest technology to coach content and facilitate the sharing and application of knowledge for individuals and teams. We deliver singular sessions but can also link two or more modules in a series of sessions together to meet a particular set of needs. Each session comes with a check list of key points to help you apply the learning. All our Live Coaching sessions can be delivered 24 hours across all time zones.
Two-Hour Workshop
This workshop offers an insight and develops awareness of HF and why and how it matters to safety, compliance and risk optimisation.
Half-Day Workshop
One-Day Training/One- Day Masterclass
The training day covers the full spectrum of HF topics and explored two to three most relevant ones in depth through case studies and/or exercises, enabling delegates to walk away with a set of practical actions they can adopt. Also it explores, in a very practical way, how leaders can drive the adoption of HF by their teams and organisations.
The masterclass covers the full spectrum of HF topics, exploring the three most relevant factors through case studies, exercises and team practical application in a great interactive day.
Three/Four-Day Training
This fully tailored training course covers all the topics through presentations, facilitated discussion by experts, case studies, experiential exercises, simulations or ‘real life’ scenarios, and formal assessment, all with a view to lifting delegates’ ‘HF’ competency levels to ‘Intermediate Level’ by making their knowledge ‘actionable’. Delegates walk away with a clear understanding and an ‘action plan’.
Follow-Up Coaching
This session can be arranged as a 1-on-1 and also for groups of 4-8 in size. It can be delivered face-to-face and online. The timing of this can vary in length and is designed in consultation with you.
Refresher Training
This refresher training is for people who have gone through the in-depth training. The refreshers are recommended typically after 6-12 months. The duration can be ½ to a full day in consultation with you.
Awareness Training
Human Factors Training really has impact if the people around those who have undergone the actual training understand the basics of HF and are receptive to it. The Awareness course is similar in content to the 2-hour or ½ day workshop but emphasises what participants can do and should refrain from to allow HF to have maximum impact in the shortest possible time . This can be delivered online and at scale.
