About Human Factors

Human errors account for most avoidable incidents, accidents and near misses. Usually, systems and processes deployed to reduce risks and improve safety overlook the role of individuals and the ‘human factors’ that affect risk, safety, reliability and compliance. Human Factors optimises all these by focusing on the key factors such as errors, accident chains, decision making, collaboration, communication, fatigue, stress and situational awareness. Human Factors training offers the most time and cost-efficient route to a further step change in safety, reliability and risk management.

Who should choose this solution?

Any Oil & Gas, Maritime, Healthcare, Construction, Events and Emergency services leader who is accountable for optimising safety, risk management and compliance in his or her area or for the wider organisation.

Human Factors Training Outcomes

Learn how to apply crucial Human Factors NOTECHS (Situational Awareness, Decisions Making, Stress and Fatigue, Leadership vs Management, Teamwork, Communication and Collaboration) and have the ability to improve decision-making under pressure and practice the key skills learned.

Actual improvements in safety, reliability and other desired operational outcomes (KPIs), including leadership, creating the right culture (Just, Reporting) and integration of Human Factors into existing processes and systems.

Receive a Certificate of Completion from Mission Performance.

Why this solution is for you

Most incidents and near misses are avoidable and down to human (in)action. The business case for optimising Human Factors is well documented. Organisations typically develop and deploy many systems and processes to reduce risks and improve safety, but most overlook the role that leadership and teamwork play in the process.

If you work in the Oil & Gas industry, our solutions for this industry are fully based on HF competencies laid down by the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) and designed to be cost & time efficient.  Our Human Factors programmes are offered by the Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE) as the standard HF programme to their global membership.

Awareness Training

Awareness Training

Human Factors Training really has impact if the people around those who have undergone the actual training understand the basics of HF and are receptive to it. The Awareness course is similar in content to the 2-hour or ½ day workshop but emphasises what participants can do and should refrain from to allow HF to have maximum impact in the shortest possible time . This can be delivered online and at scale.

THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF HF

HF has a positive impact on the readiness of our front-line personnel, as it improves situational awareness via combination of non-technical skills training, tackling technical challenges in a simulated work environment. - VP Operations -

ELEVATING SAFETY PERFORMANCE

The focus on Human Factors and the 6 Non-Tech behaviours gave a good picture for elevating safety performance not just through the technical route. - Superintendent -

A REMARKABLE CHANGE

This has done an excellent job focusing attention and resource in the critical arena of Human Factors. The approach can easily be expanded to other populations, positively impacting all our operational teams. A remarkable change was seen in the approach to Human Factors by the participants. - Global Competency Manager -

MISSIONS'S UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE

This covers awareness of three distinct areas: (Drilling) Systems; External Environment (changing nature of physical environment - weather, terrain, noise, visibility) and the potential impact upon the operation; and Awareness of Time: Use of present state to anticipate future states and events.

DURATION

90 Minutes/2 Hours

DESCRIPTION

The exchange (transmission and reception) of information, ideas and beliefs, by verbal and non-verbal methods. Understanding the barriers to, and characteristics of, effective communication. DESCRIPTION

We share a few simple but highly effective decision-making tools, which are particularly powerful in situations where time and information are limited, and the pressure is high. How to define and diagnose a problem; generate alternative options with crew; assess risks and select develop options; review solution outcomes against pre-defined goals.

DURATION

90 Minutes/2 Hours

DESCRIPTION

Equips the learner with an understanding of causes and impacts of the factors that affect the ability of people to perform reliably. Then gives simple effective strategies for how to manage these issues, and the impact of ignoring the effect on performance.

DURATION

90 Minutes/2 Hours

DESCRIPTION

Appreciate the difference between leadership and management and how each play a different role in optimising safety and risk and that you need both to complement the other. DURATION

90 Minutes/2 Hours

Important to understand that there is often an opportunity to ‘break’ the chain, and that the RCA of an accident usually highlights where those opportunities lie.

DURATION

90 Minutes/2 Hours

It's about the more important aspects of how to ensure understanding, ensuring honesty, how (the leader’s) tone, language and style matter; how to effectively question; how to ‘lead’ a debrief to maximise ownership and learning; how to teach and use clean feedback.

DURATION

90 Minutes/2 Hours
